Wishing Stone Collection

When walking along the any shoreline, it’s common to look down to scan the ground for intricate shells and fragments of beach glass. Upon spotting a rare variety, you’d likely pick it up, and add it to your collection as a prized possession. Sometimes, particularly along the rocky shores that are characteristic of many coastal regions in Atlantic Canada, beach combing centres around finding the “perfect” rock. What is deemed a good beach rock is subject to it’s finder; it could have smooth surface, a pleasing shape, or an eye-catching colour. There is one type of rock, however, that is known with certainty to be special: wishing stones.

According to legend, a wishing stone is a rock with a distinct, continuous line that runs around it. These are known to grant wishes when mediated on and tossed back into the ocean, or lovingly passed along to someone else.
