Jewellery Care

General Care and Storage

All Kind Seas jewellery is made by hand with high-quality standards and attention to detail; with proper care, your jewellery should prove to be durable, and easily worn for years to come. I recommend the following tips to ensure the longevity of your jewels:

  • Exposure to wet or humid environments will cause silver to begin to tarnish. Remove jewellery when bathing, exercising, swimming (particularly in chlorinated pools or hot tubs), applying hairspray, lotions, and cosmetics.

  • When not worn, store your jewellery in a cool, dry place, preferably in an airtight, resealable plastic bag; this is a great way to avoid exposure to moisture.

  • Silver may have a reaction to household chemicals and some cleaning products, so please remove your jewellery when using any of these products.

Removing Tarnish

I recommend routinely giving your Kind Seas jewellery a light scrub using a soft toothbrush with warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse and dry thoroughly. It’s important to do this regularly to remove any dirt, or oil from your skin, in order to help maintain that bright, sparkly finish.

Over time, silver will begin to tarnish. You may use a polishing cloth to lightly buff the surface of the metal, however, to better maintain a matte finish, I prefer to clean silver with an easy method that uses common household products. You can follow these simple step-by-step instructions.

NOTE : These cleaning tips are only recommended for sterling silver jewellery that does NOT have any precious stones or pearls.

What you will need:

  • Baking soda

  • Dish soap

  • Tin foil

  • Water

  • A toothbrush

The Process:

  1. Line the interior of a small dish or container with aluminum foil, with the shiny side facing upwards. Make sure the dish you choose is large enough to fit the jewellery pieces you wish to clean.

  2. Sprinkle a spoonful or two of baking soda to cover the bottom of the dish. Add a small amount of dish soap as well.

  3. Fill the dish with boiling water (it may bubble a bit), and give it a light stir to make sure the baking soda and soap are dissolved.

  4. Place your jewellery into the container, and let sit for about twenty minutes, or until the water has completely cooled.

  5. Remove jewellery from the container. Rinse the pieces under warm water, and scrub lightly with a soft toothbrush.

  6. Areas with heavy tarnish may require a little extra scrub. Make a little paste with the baking soda and water, and massage gently massage into the surface. Rinse the pieces once more, and dry with a soft, clean cloth.

Ta-da! Your jewels should be bright and sparkly, and look brand new!

If your piece has become heavily tarnished, and the above recommendations are unsuccessful in removing all the tarnish, you may try a silver dip cleaner that can be purchased at most jewellery stores, or may also be found at some pharmacies. Please carefully follow the product instructions and DO NOT submerge your jewellery for longer than a few seconds.

If your piece has become broken or damaged, please see our Exchanges and Repairs policy page.
